Botswana regulator welcomes latest market expansion
Gambling in Botswana is gradually evolving into a highly competitive market, with the local regulator welcoming a list of new licensees.
The Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA) will now have to expand the scope of its regulatory supervision across nine more bookmakers and their operations.

Initially totalling 10 applications, six licence holders have already launched to market, three will launch soon, while one has withdrawn its request.

Detailing the benefits that the gambling sector brings to Botswana’s economy, the BGA highlighted that more than 400 jobs have already been opened thanks to various casinos and licensed bookmakers operating around the country.

Furthermore, BGA’s projections are for an additional 2,300 jobs to be generated across casinos and betting shops in the coming years.

Marvin Torto, BGA Board Chairman, commented: “As part of our repositioning strategy as a facilitative regulator, we are intensifying stakeholder engagement developing Botswana gambling standards and proactively working to reduce regulatory hurdles.”

One of the latest bookmakers to launch is BetXplosion, a newcomer to the Botswana scene which has already committed to setting aside a minimum of five percent of its GGR to Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives managed by the BGA, such as youth education, sports, and health.

Welcoming the company’s official launch in Botswana, Torto added: “This launch is not just about business – it’s about reinforcing our shared commitment to a regulated, inclusive gambling industry that protects the public interest.

“We urge BetXplosion to lead by example – in compliance, innovation, community development, and player protection.”
