The 2025 season keeps delivering major highlights for Argentine jockey Jorge Ruiz Díaz. After a brilliant Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park in Miami, his return to the Maryland circuit, his main base, has continued to produce significant victories.
Most recently, he secured one of his most important wins since arriving in the United States, capturing the Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3) for the second time in three years. The race, held over 2200 meters on turf for fillies and mares three and up with a purse of $250,000, saw him guide Marksman Queen to a gate-to-wire victory.
As in 2023 with Sopran Basilea (Night of Thunder), Ruiz teamed up with top trainer H. Graham Motion, controlling the pace comfortably before fending off the late charge from Germany’s Spanish Eyes (Zarak) to stop the clock in 2:15.85.
Bred in England and racing as a homebred for Cayton Park Stud Ltd., Marksman Queen is a daughter of Dubawi out of Sharp Susan (Touch Gold) and went off favored in the field of five.
“She was absolutely brilliant today,” said trainer H. Graham Motion. “She’s a tough, brave filly who always shows up to fight. Jorge (Ruiz) was fantastic, giving her a perfect ride. I’m actually surprised and honored to have won this race for the tenth time. Some really good turf fillies and mares have won here over the years, so it’s a true honor to have been successful so often in such an important race.”
So far in 2025, Jorge Ruiz Díaz has recorded 51 wins, 54 seconds, and 57 thirds from 406 mounts, with his rides earning a total of $2,486,330. At this pace, he could surpass his 2024 numbers, which remain his best season since arriving in the U.S. in 2016.
Jorge Ruiz Díaz continues to ride, win, and shine in the United States, showcasing his full talent in a stage of complete professional maturity.
