Under the deal, Hollywood.com, a Florida-based entertainment news website, will launch entertainment-focused event contracts, with CFTC-registered exchange and clearing house Crypto.com running the site’s backend.
The move marks just the latest business to announce its entrance into the burgeoning prediction market space, following on from Donald Trump’s Truth Social announcing it was also entering the space alongside Crypto.com at the end of last month.
Overall, however, the prediction markets space has largely consisted of a two-horse race between the largest players in the space – Polymarket and Kalshi.
Travis McGhee, Crypto.com managing director and global head of capital markets, said: “As prediction markets continue to grow and be part of a customer’s trading and investment strategy, we are excited to partner with a leading entertainment media property to offer customers a new way to engage with their favourite content.
“Entertainment fans are some of the most passionate consumers and we look forward to providing them a new, legal prediction market specifically tailored to them through a trusted platform.”
Hollywood.com lets fan trade on showbiz news
The new site will allow fans to bet on the entertainment event contracts across relevant topics like Hollywood movies, Broadway shows, television programmes, musical artists and major award shows.
Hollywood.com co-CEO Mitchell Rubenstein said the success of prediction markets has demonstrated there is a big appetite for trading on the outcome of future events.
The platform’s new launch, he added, will make it the first such site dedicated entirely to showbusiness predictions like movies, TV, video gaming, Broadway, pop culture, and celebrities.
He said: ”Imagine predicting reality show and award show winners, or whether a musical artist will reach #1 on the charts – we’re giving fans a voice in predicting the moments that define entertainment. This isn’t about sports, politics, or financial markets – this is pure entertainment.
“We’re creating an entirely new way for fans to engage with the content they’re passionate about, and as Hollywood.com, we are excited to lead this transformation with Crypto.com.”
